WHAT'S OLD IS NEW AGAIN......

Aren't you always amazed when all of the Christmas decorations come down, how the house feels strangely empty? For approximately eleven months out of the year our homes look one way, and for a short month or so, they are decorated a different way, yet, when it all comes down it feels different.  It's during this time,  that I crave a little something new.  I stumbled upon this antique brass lantern in a design center yesterday, and instantly new that I could give it a new home in my foyer. It fits perfectly against the steep wall of the stairway. So, typically one thing leads to another......

This lamp was originally in its place..... So now.....

It sits in the dining room  window on this sweet little round table along with some chubby partridges that I keep out all year.  I love to collect chubby birds...... (I wonder what that means!)

These upholstered chairs usually sit at each head of the dining room table, but I love how they look flanking the small round table and framing the window.

I love to create a whole new look just by changing a few things around.  It is so easy to get stuck in one look because that's the way we're use to seeing it.  It's usually after the holidays when the house feels empty that I am inspired to shake it all up and change it around.  So, if you're tired of the same old, same old...... look around and shake it all up!  Chubby Birds..... I'll save that for another post!

I know what you mean.....my house looks bare now so I'm "shopping the shed" looking for things to move and round and repurpose for my mantles. I've also grown fond of the Christmas tree glow so I'm working on putting some twinkle lights in my silk ficus tree in the den. Hopefully, that will give me the glow I'm seeking without looking to Christmassy. I'll have to blog about it and you help me decide. :) Happy New Year from Houston!

Each time you post a picture of your house the same thought runs through my head....I could so totally live there! You have such beautiful taste...and I'm a sucker for plaid drapes (have them in my living room and TV room) I love the colors you use. And I just love your style! The new lantern is wonderful!!!

Very inspiring thread and so true! I also feel like shaking things up after Christmas comes down. Trouble is I just got it all cleaned and vacummed today and ready to decorate. I have a plant customer coming in the am and don't have time to "play". I may just leave things bare til after she leaves. I would love to see more of your stairwell wall. That is a problem area for me. Love that lantern.

Hi Carol,
I just adore your home. It's so inviting and warm.
What a gorgeous new lantern lamp. I love it!
I would have brought that one home as well. That is a perfect spot for it.
Your slipper chairs are beautiful too.
Lovely post. ~Melissa :)

Carol,

I am craving changes, too. There is a show on HGTV (the title of the show escapes me)that features a design team that completely empties a room and then restructures it using existing elements found in the home.

It amazes me how they can tweak the placement of a sofa, add throw pillows found in a bedroom or add a picture found in the attic and create a fresh look.

You have done a wonderful job with your fresh changes. I wish I had the kind of vision needed to do that!!

Carol,

I wonder what it means that "I think YOUR chubby birds are adorable.... lol

What a great lantern you found, and looks like the perfect place along the staircase. I must say, looking out your dining room window is beautiful!! What a lovely neighborhood. I thought so when you posted the pic of the mailbox you adorned for Christmas. It was nice to see another look. Those two dining chairs are to die for. I am crazy about them. Beautiful shape!!! Such a pretty post! ~Cheryl
